DAY 17

OUR STRENGTH IS IN HIS NAME

LUKE 9:1-6

“Then he called his twelve disciples together, and gave them power and authority over all devils, and to cure diseases. And he sent them to preach the kingdom of God, and to heal the sick. And he said unto them, Take nothing for your journey, neither staves, nor scrip, neither bread, neither money; neither have two coats apiece. And whatsoever house ye enter into, there abide, and thence depart. And whosoever will not receive you, when ye go out of that city, shake off the very dust from your feet for a testimony against them. And they departed, and went through the towns, preaching the gospel, and healing every where.”

It is wonderful to watch the extraordinary happen through the ordinary. God often picks ordinary people. He equips them, trains them, and then draws out their gifts and their faith to use them for His glory!

1 Corinthians 1:26-27,29

“For you see your calling, brethren, that not many wise according to the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called. But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty; … that no flesh should glory in His presence.”

In the original text found in Luke, God has not only picked ordinary people, but He sent them out seemingly unequipped for the task at hand. In verse 3 of Luke chapter 9, He said unto them:

a) Take nothing for your journey

b) neither staves (staff: a long pole carried in the hand that can be used for protection, and to steady yourself  on uneven terrain)

c) nor scrip (bag or purse to carry items)

d) neither bread (food)

e) neither money

f) neither have two coats apiece (having a backup)

Jesus Christ was saying I am sending you out with just my name and the authority in my  name - because my name is enough. My name is your protection and defense. It is  your bread and provision, and it will be your covering.

Philippians 2:9-10

“Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above  every name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven,  and things in earth, and things under the earth;”

So, nothing shall stop us if we are walking in the authority of His name and know that the name of Jesus Christ reigns over all things (not just spiritual issues, but physical needs as well). EVERYTHING in heaven, in earth, and under the earth submits to His name.

Today, as you see the needs before you and issues that arise, remember there is POWER in the name of Jesus.
